How to Opt In

Opting in happens after you create an account, never as part of signing up. The two kinds of message have separate opt-ins, collected in two different places, so agreeing to one never opts you into the other.

1. Account and bidding messages — on the phone verification dialog.

Once signed in, you open the phone verification dialog from your account profile, enter your mobile number, and receive a one-time passcode by text message. On that dialog is one optional checkbox, unchecked by default, which reads:

Beneath it the dialog states: "AuctionAlgo is the auction platform powering this site. Consent is not a condition of any purchase.", followed by links to our Terms of Service, these SMS Terms and our Privacy Policy. Your choice is recorded only once the passcode is verified successfully, so consent is always tied to a number that has been proven to be yours.

2. Marketing messages — on your Notification Preferences page, separately.

Marketing consent is never requested during phone verification. After your number is verified, the Marketing SMS row on your Notification Preferences page becomes available. It is a separate checkbox, unchecked by default, and it reads:

If you change your phone number, both consents are withdrawn and must be given again for the new number.

Consent is not a condition of service. You do not have to agree to receive text messages in order to create an account, register for an auction, place a bid, or complete a purchase.

Types of Messages You May Receive

Messages under this programme relate to your own account and bidding activity, and may include:

• One-time verification codes, used to verify your phone number and to sign in securely
• Confirmation that a bid you placed was received
• Notice that you have been outbid on a lot
• Approval of your registration to bid in an auction
• Notice that you have won a lot
• Confirmation that a payment or invoice has been received
• Reminders that an auction or a lot you registered for, or added to your watchlist, is about to start

Each message is signed with the name of the auction house you registered with, so you can tell which auction the message relates to.

Message Frequency

Message frequency varies. The number of messages you receive depends on your own activity — how many auctions you register for, how often you bid, how often you are outbid, and how many invoices you receive. We do not send messages on a fixed schedule.

Message and Data Rates

Message and data rates may apply. We do not charge you for these messages, but your mobile carrier may charge for messages, data, or both, according to your plan. Contact your carrier if you are unsure of your rates.

How to Opt Out

You can stop text messages at any time. Reply to any message we send you with any of:

You will receive a single confirmation that you have been unsubscribed, and then no further text messages. You can also turn off SMS notifications in your account notification settings.

Opting out ends text messages only. It does not close your account, you can still bid, and you will continue to receive essential notifications by email.

Supported Carriers and Delivery

Supported carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Delivery depends on effective transmission by your carrier and is outside our control.

Because delivery cannot be guaranteed, do not rely on text messages alone for time-critical auction activity. Email notifications and the auction website remain the authoritative record of your bids, invoices and results.

Your Mobile Information

Mobile opt-in data and consent are not shared or sold to third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.

We use your mobile number and the record of your consent only to deliver the messages described above and to keep a record that you agreed to receive them.

We use a third-party messaging provider to transmit these messages on our behalf. That provider may only process your number for the purpose of delivering them. For more detail on how we handle personal information, see our Privacy Policy.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these SMS Terms and Conditions from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page shows when the most recent change was made. Continuing to receive text messages after a change means you accept the updated terms.
